I made the majority of this beat live on ustream. I made this beat in response to some of Rjd2’s music and live shows. After sharing some ideas back and forth, I sent Rjd2 my album Deep and with BWGWAB I wanted to impress him with something that featured more change ups and evolution. Marketing beats to an artist is different than designing an instrumental that can standalone; whereas Deep featured many formally structured beat (3 16 bar verses, 4 8 bar choruses, occasional bridge) designed with the notion that an artist will find it structured enough to compose a song to it, nothing on BWGWAB is formally structured. “Bouncin” is especially evolving in structure, with many different bridges and breakdowns to keep the beat unpredictable and interesting. The vibe, however, is one of my favorites to capture: soulful or jazzy keys, organic acoustic instruments, airy synths and a slumping drum pattern.
